My heart is confused. My mind is perplexed. I'll admit my lovelies, I, like I'm sure many of you, have been stuck in a funk with the current state of the world. I don't know what to say, I'm confused as to what I think, I'm a puddle of worries and defeat. All I know is that there is a whole lot of WRONG going on out there and I'm feeling a little hopeless. Now, I spent a couple of days really thinking about the state of our world and I thought to myself, "what am I doing?" Sitting at home feeling like I'm emotionally walking on eggshells is doing no good for myself or the people in the world that are being treated as they are.

It's 2016. I bet that we as a people thought that we would be further off than we are as a society and culturally. We've made STRIDES during the last few decades, but lately it's seemed like there truly have been some remarkable steps in the WRONG direction.

I'm someone that doesn't like to make waves. If you were to see me in a group of people or in a classroom, I try to blend. I'm extremely opinionated, but with that I am also extremely selective with who I share those opinions with. Honestly, you can probably decipher my opinion based on the content of my blog and Facebook page. (I'm a big ol' hippie at heart. I mean come on, my pages is called Spread A Little Love for crying out loud!)

Now, with my silent opinions I realized something. I'm not as silent as I thought I was. You don't have to shout your beliefs from the rooftops. Any of you who know me well, know I am LOUD lol but for me, when it comes to sharing something I truly believe in or when I'm asked to share a bit of myself that I hold close, that's completely outside my comfort-zone. Knowing this about myself I realized something. I compensate for my lack of vocalization through my actions.

Now I know you're asking yourself "Vanessa, ya weirdo, what are you talking about?” Okay, are you ready for it? The title of this post is a dead giveaway. If you're tired of what you're seeing day-in and day-out BE THE CHANGE. Get it now? Gahndi said it, and it's as true then as it is now "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

The world today is a scary place. Being different to what is considered "right", what's considered "beautiful", and what's considered "more important" is dangerous. Even with all the advances we have made we still live in a world where the amount of melanin in our skin, who we love, or who or how we worship can make any given moment a life or death situation. Seeing that in writing, even with it being my own words, brings a sadness that I can't quite define or explain. But I know that every choice I make, everything I do can make a small dent in that hard reality.

If we can love each other not IN SPITE of our differences, but rather love each other BECAUSE of our differences things can change. Do we not marvel at a rainbow because of all the different colors? Do we not dive into the ocean because we wish to learn what's beyond its depths? Why would we not do the same for the human race? Marvel my friends! Celebrate our differences, love what makes us unique and what makes us the same. It may not seem like a lot, but by being open to the love and learning of who we all are, things could change. Lead by example. Some of you are good at being heard, and the rest, you're probably more like me. Live your life the best way you can, do what's right and you'll be surprised what a difference that can make.

Now if I offended anyone, please know that was not my intention. The case I plead is that of the world we live in but also that of the world I'd like to live in. I think you'll find that with a little more understanding, a little more willingness to listen, and a little more love maybe things really could change. And who knows maybe because of the way you choose to live, it can cause a ripple somewhere down the line and without knowing it you actually become "The change you wish to see in the world."
