Remember to Stop, Breathe, and TREAT YO' SELF!

When was the last time you told yourself to breathe? Yes, I know you breathe without really thinking about it. What I mean is, when was the last time you took a moment to catch your breath? Between constantly running on fumes, going to work, attempting to work out when you can, spending time with family, friends, we often lose track of one thing…ourselves. I feel like I’m constantly on the go and still feel like it’s not ever enough. I bet every one of you have had days where you go from work to running errands, cooking dinner, cleaning up, doing laundry, eat, do the dishes, attempt to work out, and you keep going and going. I know there is at least one of you looking at this and saying to yourself, “um, this sounds like my everyday…” or “that’s nothing, I have even more than that to juggle…” STOP. It’s not a competition. A lot of people like to compare how much more they have to do in a day to others and it’s not necessary. We ALL have a ton that we get done on a normal basis, but how often do we actually stop and take it all in? When do we pump the gas and do some self-maintenance? Not often enough.

I am one of those people that has to get it all done in one day, one session, one sitting. I don’t like leaving things with loose ends. This causes me to at times (more often than not) to burn the candle at both ends leaving myself with no time for myself. I have to have people tell me to slow down, to not push myself to the point of exhaustion. And I think a lot of you are like this too. So I’m here to tell you to put down the grocery list, stop you’re sweeping and sit your butt down. You’re not a superhero, you can take a break! You can breathe!

Now what do you do with this new time that has been granted to you for just YOU?? Anything you want! That’s the beauty of it. Get that haircut you’ve been putting off, go to the beach, and read a book, whatever will give you the recharge you need, DO ITTTT!!!

It’s so important for people to remember that it’s okay to take some time and let yourself defrag. Those dishes will be there in the morning if you decide not to wash them. You can pick up that project you’ve been working on in an hour. But what won’t be there are the precious moments you take for you. Does it sound selfish? Maybe. But if you are constantly on the go, and giving pieces of yourself to everyone else, why wouldn’t you do the same for you?

Personally I’m on a mission to do little things for myself more. (This is a major development for me…) I’m taking time to read more, I’ve bought myself some good clothes and quality shoes rather than wearing the old holey ones I have or buying the ones are on super clearance and are cheaply made and are going to be ruined by next summer, I’m trying to heal myself both physically and mentally, and guess what? Every time I do one of these seemingly little things, I feel rejuvenated and it’s amazing. I at times need to be pushed to remember myself, but when I actually take the time to stop and smell the roses and maybe even give them a little watering, I am renewed.

Now this post may come off as me telling you to be indulgent or selfish, and some of you may take this as me endorsing bad habits (i.e. putting the dishes off until tomorrow…) and I get where you got that from. I’m not telling anyone to forget about their responsibilities (putting off the dishes too many days in a row can get super gross my friends…). But what I am saying is that everyone has a responsibility to themselves to give themselves a little time, love, and reward for all of the hard work you do every day. There is nothing wrong with letting yourself have the gift of time or a sensible pair of shoes when you’ve earned it.

So from one energizer bunny to many others, I say to you RELAX! If you can’t get it all done at once you’re not a failure, and don’t forget to chill-the-hell-out and take some floor time or get your nails did. The world isn’t going to stop just because you do. You’re still just as fierce even if you don’t make your guacamole from scratch tonight.

If you need some proof that taking care of yourself is not only okay but a necessity, check out these great reads!

And if you’re like me and need someone to tell you that it’s okay for you to TREAT YO’SELF! Consider this me granting you the thumbs up to sit down and binge watch “Stranger Things” instead of simultaneously making a cake from scratch, checking your work email, and attempting to start your Christmas shopping. Take a break, you’ve earned it! <3
